A Night with the Town Council

May 15, 2008 / by lunarhunk

Last night, I went to the Town Council meeting. I thought it would be a good idea since I had gone to the School Committee meeting the night before. Seemed like a good opportunity to compare and contrast. It definitely was that.

I usually watch the Council meetings on TV. They are broadcast on public access the Monday after the meeting. It is actually much more interesting to be there in person since I felt like I was a part of it all even if I wasn't even talking during the evening.

There really wasn't anything controversial on the agenda for the evening, but it was still interesting.

I came to realize that I am a little better known in town than i had thought, which was pretty cool. I was actually talking to one woman about the school committee meeting the night before and my impression of it, and she said that she figured I would be good for the job because she didn't think I scared easy. I felt really complimented by it.

As much as I enjoyed the meeting, I think I can make a bigger difference if I was on the school committee. The ironic thing is that I think I might actually have a better chance of actually winning a seat on the Town Council.

Oh, and so the eenie-meenie, minie, moe goes on?  Well, I don't know, AJ, but I think...and this is my opinion, mind you, not a suggestion...that you should go after what you think you will be better at, where you can do the most good, and not go after one just because it's easier to get.  It should be for what you want and where you are most needed , not what is less wanted just because it's easier to pursue and win.
